I can't really believe we have only been back in Les Granges for just over two weeks! Already 5 sets of guests have been and gone, and our long-awaited Russian group has almost all arrived, hampered in part by the plane crash at Vukunova Airport in Moscow. They seem determined to celebrate New Year in style (Russian style!); they have brought their own supplies of red caviar and have asked us to cook 'escargots' every night (apparently unobtainable in Russia).
It's been another extraordinary start to the winter season. It started snowing here at the end of November, and by the time Les Arcs opened on 15th December there was 325cm of snow at the top and 90cm in Bourg St Maurice. An article in the local paper claimed that this winter was 'excedentaire' in terms of snow-fall, even beating last years' dramatic downpours. However, now things have settled down nicely, and today the sun is shining in a perfect blue sky. It's still cold in the shade (-6 this morning), so we couldn't ask for a better New Year's eve.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all our guests, past and present and our new blog readers everywhere.
